“Her joyous demeanor coupled with a willingness (to) answer the most candid and even intimate of questions about her life…is the secret sauce to becoming a must-follow account.”

A labor and delivery nurse, a wife and a mother of four girls, Miriam Ezagui of Brooklyn, NYC, took to TikTok as a content creator starring in January of 2022 to give a glance into her life as an Orthodox Jew, and now has over 2 million followers and growing. A labor and delivery nurse, a wife and a mother of four girls in Brooklyn, NYC, Miriam has been recognized for her informative content on TikTok by New York Jewish Week in their annual “36 to Watch 2023” list, and she was also recently featured in PEOPLE. “Come have a peek at what our life is like during the joyous times and sharing my Bubbe’s (Yiddish for ‘grandmother’) memories from the Holocaust. You can come with me as I have my wigs styled, and even a walk down the aisle. And of course, lots of baby wearing. All are welcome here,” says Miriam in a short intro video on TikTok.

Not too long after Miriam created her TikTok account last year, “The View” host Whoopi Goldberg said on air that "the Holocaust isn’t about race." In response, Miriam, as the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, spoke up and created a video on TikTok that debunked Goldberg’s claims. And from there, Miriam devoted much of her content to educating people about the Holocaust, having her grandmother Lilly, a Holocaust survivor, on with her as a guest, to talk about what she endured, so that no one will ever forget.

On TikTok, Miriam evokes both grace and confidence as she demystifies stereotypes and prejudices in an open and candid way. Her countless followers, who make up a diverse selection of many different ethnicities, nationalities, races, religions, genders, sexual orientations and more, respond to her videos overwhelmingly with positive comments, and lots of questions about Orthodox Judaism and aspects of her life, which she happily answers. On the other hand, on occasion when she receives off putting comments from detractors, she will respond with wit and humor to challenge their misconceptions. There is no room for hate speech on Miriam’s TikTok feed. Her aim is to create a respectful dialogue to and from her followers, building bridges to learn from and embrace one another’s differences.

“One of the reasons why I share here is that I’m breaking down walls, and I’m giving people a window into my life so that they can have a better understanding of how Orthodox Jews live,” says Miriam.

From the laws of the Torah, including customs, holidays and rituals, what one can and cannot do on Shabbos (the Jewish Sabbath from Sundown to Sundown Friday to Saturday nights) and keeping a Kosher kitchen (which involves not only eating dairy and meat separately, but also separating the utensils, cookware, sinks and ovens used to serve and prepare them), Miriam explains it all. We see Miriam cooking and eating Kosher meals at home (and at work), taking her husband Aaron out on dates to Kosher restaurants, bringing her girls to Kosher candy stores and eating her favorite tomato basil mayo toast

We also follow Miriam as she partakes in customs specifically for Orthodox Jewish women. This includes shopping for and styling wigs, known as a “sheitel” in Yiddish, which most Orthodox Jewish women wear to signify that they are married. We see Miriam go to boutiques to buy modest dresses. And we take a journey with Miriam to a women’s mikvah, a ritual bath in which observant married Jewish women are required to dip once a month, seven days after the end of their menstrual cycle, which is known in Hebrew as “Niddah.”

Miriam also has a collection of hundreds of colorful baby wearing wraps, which she demonstrates how to properly wear around their bodies to safely and comfortably carry and walk around with a baby.

As a registered and practicing labor and delivery nurse, who works in a busy New York hospital that delivers over 6,000 babies a year, Miriam also teaches childbirth classes. Her class focuses on providing mothers with all the tools to achieve a natural childbirth in a hospital setting. She teaches about the labor stages, coping methods, positioning, relaxation techniques, massage and medication. Topics also cover skin to skin, bonding with your baby and initiating breastfeeding.
