Bobby Laurie is the only TV travel expert with actual hands-on experience, having worked in the travel industry and as a flight attendant, dating back to 2005. Currently, Laurie serves as Co-Host and Executive Producer of the nationally syndicated travel and lifestyle show “The Jet Set,” America’s first-ever travel themed television talk show. He also served as a Traffic Anchor in Washington, D.C. for iHeartMedia and ABC7, and worked in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for WHTM-TV ABC27 as an Anchor/Reporter. For his work in television, he has been honored with Telly Awards, Communicator Awards and an AVIA Award. He is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers, National American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) and SPJ (Society of Professional Journalists). He is also a certified travel agent by IATA and holds a CLIA (Cruise Line International Association) certification. Laurie received an Associate of Applied Arts in Mass Media Communication at Pennsylvania College of Technology, and diplomas in Airline Operations from Rio Salado College in Phoenix, Ariz., and Brand Management from Cornell University.

Laurie is continuously tapped to lend his opinions on the ever changing travel industry. At present, Laurie is routinely featured on The TODAY Show, GMA, CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, Inside Edition, Tamron Hall, The Weather Channel, NPR and print/online in Conde Nast Traveler, The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal among others. “I love to assist the media including journalists and producers, complete their travel stories with insider insight into processes and procedures, in-flight safety standards, anecdotes ranging from everyday life in the sky to hilarious and strange situations, and commentary on the aviation and travel industry as a whole,” said Laurie.

Laurie’s thorough knowledge of the training, procedures and role of a flight attendant coupled with his hands-on aviation experience, has led him to be called upon as an Expert Witness in cases surrounding airline cabin safety. He can review, advise, report and testify to situations surrounding the role of a flight attendant, Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and compliance, on-board emergency procedures including: aircraft emergency evacuation procedures, disruptive passenger handling and restraint procedures and In-Flight medical emergencies among others. He developed, tested, maintained and worked with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to create policies and procedures for the US Airways/American Airlines InFlight Emergency Manual. He later joined Virgin America as one of the first 200 flight attendants under the brand started by Sir Richard Branson.

In 2009 Laurie began his move into media and created a travel blog that was designed to collect and journal the experiences he encountered while working as a flight attendant. Because of the catchy name and his unbelievable, yet true stories, the blog became widely read among airline and industry enthusiasts. In 2010, a collection of his most popular articles and journals from his website were published into a book titled “Planely Speaking: Inflight Insight from Thirty Thousand Feet.”

In 2014, Laurie produced a travel series for Discovery Network’s “Destination America” titled “TAKE OFF! with The Savvy Stews,” which followed Laurie and another flight attendant traveling the world and experiencing local cuisine, festivals, attractions and experiences. The show now streams on Amazon. From 2013 through 2015, Laurie served as a travel correspondent on the now canceled national morning show “The Daily Buzz” for three years and national lifestyle show “The Better Show.” He also appeared regularly on the CNN Airport Network hosting the “Frequent Traveler” segment.
